The new tournament, which pits the best six teams in the Northern Hemisphere against their Southern Hemisphere counterparts, is designed to ensure every match in the summer and autumn counts - all leading to a finals weekend at the Allianz Stadium in November.

Australia and Ireland begin their Nations Championship campaigns as the two sides meet in Sydney. Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt will have fond memories of his time in Ireland - he enjoyed a successful six-year spell as head coach. His counterpart Andy Farrell has just signed a long-term deal to lead the Irish team and will be hoping to build on a largely positive Six Nations campaign which saw them finish second to France.

It's been a turbulent few years for Welsh Rugby - but a morale-boosting Six Nations win over Italy back in March has lifted spirits, and coach Steve Tandy will be hoping to build on this as his side play their opening fixture against Fiji in the inaugural Nations Championship tournament. With Fiji unable to host matches as their main stadium does not meet competition requirements, the fixture is being played at the Cardiff City Stadium.
